Brookfield Resource Management Expands Into Warehouse Next To Current Operations In The Bronx

Additional space will help company grow operations

Elmsford, N.Y. (April 29, 2011) Ė Brookfield Resource Management, a leading recycling company serving the New York and Chicago metropolitan markets, today announced it is increasing its Bronx operations by expanding into an 8,000-square-foot building adjacent to the companyís current facility there.

Brookfield will add five new full-time jobs and double the size of the Bronx operation. The warehouse will be used for indoor processing and inventory storage. The new space will allow the company to better utilize its existing facility.

"This expansion in operations in the Bronx allows us to better serve our New York metro market," said Tom Malone, president of Brookfield Resource Management, which is based in Elmsford, N.Y. Brookfield is focused on developing and operating state-of-the-art recycling facilities. "It is part of our overall strategy to continue regionalizing our recycling operations and handle recyclable materials from a wider geographical area."

Brookfield Resource Management started its Bronx operations in the original facility at 1400 Blondell Ave. in the summer of 2010. It had been Salient Auto Salvage, an auto wrecker and used auto parts company that had been at the site for over 50 years.

The expansion is part of Brookfieldís overall growth strategy to take advantage of emerging industry trends. Brookfield added a new operation in Punjab, India, earlier this year, an operation in the Chicago market in 2010 and a facility in Montrose, N.Y., in 2009.

Brookfield Resource Management Continues Expansion With Establishment Of Scrap Metal Facility In India

Brookfield looks to capitalize on the economies of containerized scrap steel shipments

ELMSFORD N.Y. (Jan. 11) Brookfield Resource Management, a leading recycling company serving the New York and Chicago metropolitan markets, today announced the establishment of a scrap metal processing facility in India's Punjab state.

Brookfield's operations in India are the result of a joint venture between Brookfield and the Indian company Overseas Metals Inc. The JV will operate as a separate company known as Brookfield India Pvt. Ltd.

Establishing a facility in India is an important component in our long-term corporate strategy," said Tom Malone, president of Brookfield Resource Management, which is based in Elmsford, N.Y. In the near term, it provides the ability to sell directly into the Indian steel market, and over the long term acts an important stepping stone to achieving vertical integration within the international steel industry.

Brookfield India Pvt. Ltd., located in the city of Mandi Gobindgarh, currently receives, sorts and sells ferrous scrap material imported from Brookfield's facilities in the United States. The scrap steel products are sold to regional steel mills in northwestern India. In addition to importing its own scrap, Brookfield expects to begin sourcing material from other scrap processors in the U.S. As an extension to its current Indian recycling operations, Brookfield plans to open a foundry and rolling mill in India during the fourth quarter of 2011.

India's economy will continue to grow at around 8.5 percent a year, the political climate is favorable for investment and the country already is a large consumer of scrap metal, all of which makes this a tremendous opportunity for Brookfield, Malone said. However, more than anything else, this facility is an important element in the growth plans for our current and future operations in the U.S. because it establishes a highly profitable distribution channel for our scrap metal products and provides the ability to leverage the significant opportunities that emerging economies such as India represent.

The new venture will bring Brookfield's successful commercial model to the Chicago market. The new company, Brookfield Iron & Metal LLC, will recycle a wide variety of items including end-of-life commercial and passenger vehicles and all grades of scrap metal.

Wilkins Rebuilders Supply is a leader in its field and we've had several opportunities to partner recently, said Wilkins President Josh Wilkins. However, we feel there are tremendous synergies between Wilkins and Brookfield and this partnership presented the best opportunity for us to capitalize on long-term market trends. We know the Chicago market and Brookfield has the recycling expertise it's the perfect partnership.
